In folk medicine, the tea was used as a sedative for nervousness and against insomnia, as an antispasmodic and diarrhea remedy. Many people use tea made from passionflower herb for nervous restlessness, as a sleep aid, or even as an anti-anxiety and antispasmodic. In homeopathy it is recommended in such cases.
Passionflower has also been successfully used against depression and gloom.

The calming, anti-anxiety and antispasmodic effects of passionflower have been confirmed by animal experiments. That passionflower is used to relax and relieve abdominal pain stands to reason.

As always, it depends on the application.
