Galangal root powder

The "Liang-kiang" (mild ginger) makes good mood and landed from China via many stations in Europe. Already Hildegard von Bingen recommended it as "spice of life", Its aphrodisiac effect is probably its best known property.

The root of the galangal (Alpinia officinarum)
is used both fresh and dried as a spice and feel-good remedy. Galangal is rich in vitamin C, grows in the steppes of southern China and tropical regions in Asia, and belongs to the ginger family. It has a strong flavor that lies between ginger and cinnamon, adding a gentle spiciness to food. Galangal goes great with meat and fish dishes, in Asian soups, with rice dishes, and with vegetables and legumes. Galangal powder can be used as a pepper substitute.
The root contains essential oil with cineole, alpha-pinene, eugenol, camphor, linalool, methyl cinnamate and various sesquiterpenes.
Finally, galangal contains flavonoids, terpenes, tannins, gingerols, sterols, mycrene, azulene, and most importantly, large amounts of starch.
Galangal stimulates appetite and strengthens body and mind, promotes health and vitality, is used as a sexual stimulant. If you chew, (salivate) a piece of galangal root, you will quickly feel a warm sensation.
The root is harvested from 4 - 6 year old plants, cut, dried and ground.
Hildegard von Bingen describes galangal as the "spice of life" and recommends it.
It is also called Thai or Siamese ginger, is found in Asian soups, the Indonesian Nasi Goreng, curry pastes and in the European area as a gingerbread spice.
Already Plutarch mentions it appreciatively. Arab horsemen gave it to their horses, which had a strengthening effect on them. Thus they became aware that galangal has many valuable effects.
It is still used today in digestive bitters and also for people who suffer in ships and airplanes.
Its aphrodisiac effect is probably its best known property....
Galangal stimulates, which has a positive effect not only on concentration and thinking, but also on libido. It is said that a piece of galangal root kept in the mouth can provide a particularly strong erection.
People report its euphoric and mood-lifting, stimulating and uplifting effects against dejection, listlessness, springtime fatigue and the like, and also against the associated loss of appetite.

Use galangal with care!
In women, galangal can cause premature menstruation or even miscarriage.
Therefore, as with all natural herbs, always consult a trusted medical professional who is knowledgeable about natural remedies before self-medicating with herbs. This is especially true in the case of heart conditions.
The pure and refreshing aroma of fresh galangal, which makes it a popular spice, changes to a more medicinal yet sweet aroma when dried. If you want to smoke with it, you will get a very strong and stimulating incense with a warm, somewhat ginger or curry-like, herbaceous and pungent fresh scent.
In India, it is believed that galangal activates the chakras, allowing energy to flow throughout the body again, stimulating, energizing and invigorating it. More gently than ginger, it releases inner blockages and makes it possible to look confidently into one's own self and increase inner strength there. In this way, courage and strength arise again to develop and rejoice inwardly and selically. From the joy then comes the concentration by itself.
Galangal Origin
Our galangal comes from Indonesia, but grows everywhere in humid tropical regions with nutrient-rich soil.

Herbalism of Galangal
The flowers are not fragrant and are slightly orchid-shaped, small, white with red stripes. The bulbous roots of greater galangal grow to about 20 cm long and a few centimeters thick, while those of lesser galangal are slightly shorter and thinner. In both species, only the root is used. Fresh galangal has a hint of fruity spicy pine needle aroma, while the dried one smells rather sweet, almost a bit like cinnamon. The root is harvested in early autumn, cleaned, cut and ground.
